Sanju Samson has been the talk of the town for his batting exploits for Rajasthan Royals this IPL season. Against the likes of Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab, he produced two breath-taking innings that set up big win for his franchise.
So far, in two innings, he has struck five fours and 16 sixes.
Such has been the wicketkeeper-batsman’s impact that comparisons with the legendary MS Dhoni are being made.
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor even labelled him as the next Dhoni.
However, Samson himself doesn’t want to be compared with the legendary figure saying it’s difficult to do what the former India captain has done on the field.
“I am sure that no one can and no one should try to play like him. It’s not at all easy to play like MS Dhoni, so leave that aside. I never think of playing like MS Dhoni. He is a legend of Indian cricket, legend of the game,” Samson said on Tuesday.
“I only focus on my game, what I can do, how I can do it best and how I can win matches,” he added.
Quoting Tharoor’s tweet in which he had made the comparisons, batting legend Gautam Gambhir, said that the youngster must try to be the Sanju Samson of Indian cricket instead of trying to become the new Dhoni.
Samson’s last two innings read 74 and 85.
When asked if he has performed enough to catch the attention of national selectors, Samson replied, “I maybe, I maybe not. The only think I know is I am in good form, my only dream is to win matches for my team, any team I play. My focus is on the IPL right now.”
