Chaitra Navratri 2020 Day 7, March 31: The seventh form of Devi Durga who is worshipped during Chaitra Navratri is goddess Kaalratri, who is believed to be the destroyer of all ghosts, evil spirits, demon entities, ghosts, and negative energies. She is also known as Shubankari. In Sanskrit, Shubankari means ‘auspicious’. Devotees worship Maa Kaalratri to become fearless.

Maa Kalaratri is described as the fiercest and the most ferocious form of Goddess Parvati with devotees worshipping to please the Goddess for her divine blessings.

According to Hindu mythology, Mata Parvati peeled off her outer golden skin to kill demons named Shumbha and Nishumbha. This form of hers came to be known as Goddess Kalaratri. The iconography of Devi Kalratri is described as –her complexion is dark black and is depicted riding on a donkey. Maa Kalaratri is described to be four-handed, with her right hands being in Abhaya and Varada Mudra. She is shown carrying a sword and the deadly iron hook in her left hands.

Goddess Kaalratri is considered as one of the many destructive forms of Goddess Parvati – Kali, Mahakali, Bhadrakali, Bhairavi, Mrityu, Rudrani, Chamunda, Chandi and Durga. She is believed to govern Lord Shani (the Hindu God associated with the planet Saturn).

Colour

Grey colour is advised on the seventh day of Chaitra Navratri. It symbolises the strength of transformation.
