Genda Phool Copyright Issue: Rapper Badhash Says THIS After Being Accused of Plagiarism | Earth Indian

Badshah and Jacqueline Fernandez’s latest song Genda Phool which is all over the social media for having a distinct folk melody fused with uber urban sounds, is making headlines about plagiarism. Sung by Payal Dev, Genda Phool features Jacqueline as a Bengali woman, has a line “Borlok er Bitilo, lomba lomba chul…..lal genda phool”, will remind you of the original folk song Borloker Bitilo.

It was said that the original writer Ratan Kahar claim that a line – Boro loker Biti lo, lomba lomba chool, emon mathaye bedhe debo, laal Genda phool – in Badshah’s Genda Phool to be his and accused the makers of plagiarizing the song.

Singer and rapper Badshah decided to step in and send out a statement on the same on his Twitter handle. He stated, “Nowhere on any copyright societies or any of the previous reprises/versions of the song was Mr Ratan Kahar credited as lyricist. He further explained that while ‘Boro loker Beti Lo’ has been referred to as a traditional/folk song, traditional songs are open for recreations globally. Badshah also asserted that he has tried to retain authenticity in the song.

“The lockdown situation has not been very helpful, it has been difficult to get through to the village that Shri Kahar is in and I am still trying. I urge and request any of the representatives who have been speaking on his behalf, to help me connect with him so I can do whatever possible on my part on humanitarian grounds to put this right,” Badshah added.
