Coronavirus in India LIVE: 227 Fresh Cases Emerge in 24 Hours; Govt Says no Community Transmission Yet | Earth Indian

Coronavirus in India: India witnessed one of the sharpest spike in the number of novel coronavirus  as nearly 227 people have tested positive for the deadly COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, taking the total number of positive cases to 1,251, official data showed. The figure also includes 102 cured/discharged people and 32 casualties.

Coming to the states, the biggest jump was registered in the national capital as it recorded 25 new COVID-19 cases  in the past 24 hours. On the other hand, over 200 people, who had attended a religious congregration in Nizamuddin mosque, have been admitted to different hospitals for COVID-19 tests.

Six people from Telangana who had attended the gathering between March 13 and March 15 passed away after testing positive for coronavirus.

However, the government has maintained that India is still in the local transmission stage of the coronavirus pandemic. “Nowhere are we calling it community transmission. We are still in the local transmission stage. If we use the word ‘community’ then there is speculation. It took 12 days for cases to rise from 100 to 1,000 in our country, whereas seven other developed nations having lesser population than us have seen multiple increase,” a Health Ministry official stated.
