New Delhi: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has tested negative for coronavirus, his spokesperson noted on Twitter after one of key aides was confirmed positive for the infection, triggering fears that he too may have contracted the virus as the aide had met Netanyahu last Thursday.
The Prime Minister’s family, as well as his staff, too, had tested negative, the spokesperson said, adding that despite the result, Netanyahu would continue to stay in quarantine till further instructions are issued by the Health Ministry.
“PM Netanyahu’s, his family’s and staff’s coronavirus tests all came back negative. However, he will remain quarantined until further instructions are issued by the ministry of health,” Ofir Gendelman said on Twitter.

Earlier, Rivka Paluch, Netanyahu’s adviser on ultra-orthodox affairs, had tested positive for COVID-19, just hours after her husband was hospitalised with the disease. While she denied that she had made any close contact with the Israeli Premier, local media reported that she was present at a parliament session last week attended by Netanyahu as well as opposition lawmakers with whom he is trying to build an emergency coalition government to help address the COVID-19 pandemic crisis.
The Israeli Health Ministry generally requires a 14-day isolation period for anyone deemed to have been in proximity to a COVID-19 carrier.
Thus far, there have been 4,695 coronavirus cases in Israel, including 16 casualties.
