Cheers! MP to Open Women-Friendly Liquor Shops So That Ladies Can Buy Alcohol Without Inhibitions | Earth Indian

New Delhi: Eyebrows are raised and stares get judgmental whenever a woman in India decides to go to a liquor store, to buy alcohol. It’s 2020 and many people still can’t digest the fact that women drink too, as if consuming alcohol was a male ‘domain.’

Taking a note of the same, in a progressive move, Kamal Nath-led Madhya Pradesh government is set to introduce women-friendly liquor shops in some cities so that women can buy liquor without any inhibitions.

As per reports, the state government will set two shops in Bhopal and Indore, and one each in Jabalpur and Gwalior which will be open specially for ‘women’ in the state. These ‘women-friendly’ liquor shops would be opened in malls or upmarket places.

More so, these liquor shops will sell wine and whiskey of brands that are popular among female alcohol consumers. The local brands that are not registered with the state won’t find a place in the store.

According to a PTI report, the outlets of imported foreign liquor also called bottled in origin (BIO) will be set up under the government’s new liquor policy.

MP’s State excise commissioner Rajesh Bahuguna told PTI, “Under the new liquor policy, limited number of outlets selling high-end premium liquor, formulated and bottled abroad, would be allowed to open in some big cities.”

Let’s hope that other states too follow in the footsteps!
